La Chartre-sur-le-Loir

Hotel de France

Home of the famous Hotel de France, where until recent years the most famous racing drivers stayed when racing at Le Mans. Their photographs and signatures adorn the walls.

From the Jeanne d'Arc Tower, (easily accessible from car or on foot) you can see spectacular views of the Loir Valley and the town centre below. Through the iron gate, you can glimpse the poignant list of those who fell in the Great War, from the immediate area. Many of the families of these fallen soldiers, are still prominent in the local area.

 Joan of Arc

There are antique and second hand shops as well as the Lerots workshop which contains ceramics and an art galley.

The Rougeraie lake offers fishing and picnic areas. Canoes can be hired locally for anyone wishing to take to the water.

In the summer months, the open air swimming pool opens near the local leisure centre. In mid-August the horses arrive at the      hippodrome for harness racing, an exciting and well attended event.
