Le Lude

Le Lude Chateau  Le Lude Chateau

The Chateau at Le Lude is only 35 minutes away from Les Aulnaies.

This stunning chateau is the most northerly chateau of the Loire Valley and has been owned by the same family for over 260 years.

It demonstrates four centuries of french architecture, which is why each side looks so different from the other. The Chateau was started in the 10th century, the stronghold is flanked by six towers and is surrounded by a deep moat. The lavish facade is a wonderful example of the Italian Renaissance.

The guided tours are wonderful as you walk through the rooms of old and those that are still used by the family today.

Many Kings of France have stayed at Le Lude and letters from the Kings and even a lock of Marie Antoinette's hair can be seen on display inside.

The gardens are stunning, with two mazes, ideal for children, as well as a more formal topiary garden (see below) and a rose garden. There is a great botanical walk.
